Below are specifics for the Administrative Board positions

Administrative Board Chair

• Responsibilities - Sets the agenda for Administrative Board meetings; presides during meetings; advances the mission/vision; maintains communication; completes reports.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; leadership, communication, availability, some technology, discretion, respected voice, organized, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines, consensus builder

• Typical Time commitment - 5-10 hours during per week 


Administrative Board Vice-Chair

• Responsibilities - Assists the chair in setting the agenda for Administrative Board meetings; presiding during meetings; advancing the mission/vision; maintaining communication; will serve as chair of the Administrative Board next year.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; leadership, communication, availability, some technology, discretion, respected voice, organized, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines, consensus builder

• Typical Time commitment - 5-10 hours during per week


Council on Ministries Chair

• Responsibilities - Provide support for the ministries of the church; Represent the perspective of ministries to the administrative board; Keep mission/vision before ministry units of the church; Facilitate ministry through communications and meetings; completes reports

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; leadership; coordinate resources; organization; passion for ministry; empathy; accountability; communication skills; ability to multi-task; familiarity with ministries of St. Mark’s and of the needs of the community; consensus builder

• Typical Time commitment - 4-8 hours during per week


Lay Leader / Lay Member to the Annual Conference

• Responsibilities - Represents the laity of the church at the district and conference levels and provides spiritual guidance and leadership to laity; provides leadership to lay servants and shepherds; recognize and celebrate the work of the laity; models discipleship; leads the congregation in Christian discipleship; completes reports; facilitates the administration and ministries of the church 

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined, consensus builder, servant leadership, leadership, communication, availability, some technology, discretion, respected voice, organized, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines

• Typical Time commitment - 4-8 hours during per week


Worship Team Chair

• Responsibilities - Sets the agenda for worship in consultation with the pastor and other ministry leaders (e.g., music, art, audio/visual, building and property stewards, finance and fiscal responsibility, personnel and Human Resources, UMM, UWF, Youth, children’s ministry, communion stewards); presides during Worship Team meetings; attends Administrative Board meetings, representing the worship perspective.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spirit-filled; leadership; facilitator/delegation, attentive/perceptive; creative; proactive; knowledge of United Methodism; communication; lay servant training; consensus builder

• Typical Time commitment - 2-3 hours during per week


At Large/Secretary

• Responsibilities - Maintains communication among the members of the Administrative Board; Keeps a record of the minutes of the Administrative Board; Actively participates in all aspects of the administrative board; represents the voice of the congregation; attends Administrative Board meetings; advances the mission/vision. 

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined, agile, some technical skills, understand church structure, perceptive, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines, organized, attention to detail, written communications

• Typical Time commitment - 3-4 hours during per week


At Large

• Responsibilities - Actively participates in all aspects of the administrative board; represents the voice of the congregation; attends Administrative Board meetings; advances the mission/vision.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; agile, some technical skills, understand church structure, perceptive, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines

• Typical Time commitment - 2-3 hours during per week


Personnel and Human Resources Leader

• Responsibilities - Liaise with and support church staff (office manager, musicians, audiovisual/communications technician, child development center, pastor) - recommend salary, benefits, hiring, evaluation, job descriptions, grievances, etc.); keeps the employee handbook up to date; correspond with District and Conference office; sets the agenda for Personnel and Human Resources Stewards team; advances the mission/vision; maintains communication, attends Administrative Board meetings, representing the Personnel and Human Resources perspective; completes reports.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; consensus builder; discretion/maintain confidentiality; knowledgeable about and supports the mission and vision of the church; leadership, communication, availability, responsive, compassion, knowledgeable of human resource policies and procedures (e.g., legal, IRS, benefits); previous experience on Personnel and Human Resources Team and/or Staff Parish Relations Committee; approachable; trustworthy; committed; staff management experience, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines

• Typical Time commitment - 3-4 hours during per week


Trustees and Property Leader

• Responsibilities - Provides oversight for property and contracts related to the child development center, church cleanliness, insurance, landscaping, security, and transportation, sets the agenda for Trustees and Property Stewards team; advances the mission/vision; maintains communication, attends Administrative Board meetings, representing the Trustees and Property perspective; completes reports.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined, understands property issues and contracts, leadership, people skills, communications, fairly flexible schedule, understand church structure, member for at least 1 year, familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines, consensus builder

• Typical Time commitment - 3-4 hours during per week


Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Leader

• Responsibilities - Provides regular reports of the financial activities to the Administrative Board and the congregation; fiscal management of the church’s and child development center’s finances; develop and annual budget in collaboration with other church ministry teams; develop a plan for the annual audit; develop a plan to raise funds to support the budget; keep tax filings current; liaise with banks and other financial institutions; sets the agenda for Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Stewards team (which includes the financial secretary, treasurer, tellers, and stewards); advances the mission/vision; maintains communication, attends Administrative Board meetings, representing the Finance and Fiscal Responsibility perspective; completes reports.

• Recommended gifts and graces - Spiritually disciplined; financially responsible; consensus builder; integrity; technically savvy; leadership; communication; understanding of finance and accounting; understanding of church operations; previous experience in finance/church finance; delegation; personally participates in the financial life of the church; familiar with United Methodist structure and disciplines
